Meridian Soils Ltd was incorporated by Neil Hawkins during April 2000 with the aim of providing high quality technical site investigations with minimal disruption to our clients and their homes, offices, schools or factories. Neil has been a soil research engineer since 1985 and his extensive experience has allowed him to develop the efficient, reliable and high quality service that we are known for today. Since our formation and before social media we developed our client base mainly by word of mouth recommendations, Neil and his small team of highly skilled technicians now work with many different specialist engineers within this industry, offering them the professionalism that they require.

When requested we offer a tailored investigation for each project which involves the preparation of quotations for new investigation work, this involves the verification of the geology for each location using geological data maps to ensure that we use the correct and most economical equipment for work on site and are a lot more site specific when estimating the cost for soil testing which can be a large part of an investigation. We then check the site geography using google maps to ensure access and/or parking at the site can be dealt with prior to our arrival. This can be quite time consuming but by carrying out these assessments we feel that we can prepare their quotes to better suit our clients' needs.

The trial pitting work and hand auger  as well as the small specialist machine drilling is carried out by our own staff who have many years of experience working on-site as well as in the laboratory. This has given them a broad skill-set to carry out this work (they are not just drillers but engineers). Our site staff understand the materials that they work with and carry out the correct in-situ testing and appropriate soil sampling during their work on site. They have also spent many years working within a domestic setting and they hold a great respect for other peoples' property and pride themselves on leaving the site as they found it.

We have several limited access machines and equipment which enable us to get to places where larger machinery can't reach - our equipment will usually pass through an existing door or gateway. This equipment allows us to carry out internal as well as external investigations.

We occasionally contract shell and auger drilling machines for investigations where our clients are considering a piled solution and require deep boreholes or if there are difficult ground conditions where other drilling equipment can't operate. The drilling company that we use is reputable and has worked with us for many years, although we still monitor the drilling and, as usual, all samples are checked and drillers' logs scrutinised before our reports are prepared.
